Dear Johnson Elementary School Families:
Thank you for an incredibly successful October! There are many celebrations as we close October and welcome in November – the month of gratitude.
Thank you for our JPTO for the many things they do for Johnson! This month we held our RAISE CRAZE fundraiser. We celebrated our results on November 1st. Of note, our students and community surpassed our Acts of Kindness Goals and our Fundraising Goal. Thank you to our entire community for making this happen. Thank you to our JPTO for supporting our parent-teacher conferences by providing an evening meal for our teachers. These days are long, and the meal was much appreciated. Thank you to our JPTO for our amazing book fair. Children love the book fair! Thank you to all who found time to make a purchase for their children. Thank you to all who showed up for the first year of our Trunk or Treat. What a fun and safe way to celebrate. Finaly, thank you to our JPTO for our room representative programming. We had fun fall festivities, and we could not do this without the coordination of our JPTO.
We completed Parent-Teacher Conferences. We met with 98% of our families. Thank you to all who came to our parent teacher conferences. We want to partner with all families in service of your child. If you have not completed a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Thank you to all who donated dry goods and canned goods for our local food banks. Our Student Council collected over 500 pounds of food for the food bank.
November is a quieter month with a few events I would like to highlight. This month we have our Turkey Round-up on November 21st. We end the month with our Fall Break, November 25 – 29. There are many other events, so please read through our entire newsletter to plan for your family.
Our school accountability and advisory committee meets on November 13 from 6-8 pm in our media center. If you are interested in joining this group, please send me an email with your interest. As stated in our last newsletter, we achieved a final rating of “performance” on our school performance framework with 78.6% of points attained. Our School Unified Improvement Plan has been submitted and is going through revisions at the writing of this newsletter. We have three areas of focus that will continue into the 2025-26 school year.
1. Minority students and students who live in poverty had lower achievement in English language arts than their peers.
2. Minority students and students who live in poverty had lower achievement in math than their peers.
3. Analyze our whole child focus for areas of strength and areas for improvement.
If you would like more information about our continuous improvement as a school, please reach out to me or one of our SAAC members. You will also see updates on our school website of our efforts.
Our specials staff have incorporated executive functioning skills during their time with students and in support of our overall academics. Our executive function skill for November is Flexie Lexi- The ability to revise a plan in the face of obstacles, setbacks, new information, or mistakes. Flexibility involves adaptability to changing conditions.
In closing, thank you for supporting our mission of preparing today’s child for tomorrow’s world.
Mrs. Dawson, Principal
